February 2, 2023: The feast of the Presentation of Our Lord to the Temple
Simeon, the faithful one,
held the Son of God, made man,
whom his parents brought this day
to the temple of the Lord.
He took him into his arms and spoke good news,
giving thanks to God.
“I have seen, with my own eyes,
the Redeemer of the world.
Dismiss me in peace, for the nations have been saved.”
This has been fulfilled by Christ, the Lord of all,
who was born from Mary’s womb.Lord, you are enthroned on high
yet became a newborn child
Blest and beautiful are you,
carried in your mother’s arms.
O Ancient of Days, you are the hope of all,
the awaited One.
In his old age, Simeon
prays to you, “My Lord and God!
Dismiss me in peace, O Redeemer of the world.
Let me preach the good news of eternal life
to all those who sleep in hope.”
